In 2018, I was laid off… for the second time that year. After the second “loss,” I began to question my skills and abilities. By that point, I had two choices; I could let that negative wave thrash over me, or I could take my proficiencies in a whole new direction. After all, I was great at both jobs, and I was very proud of my work ethic, but things have their own way of working in the corporate world, especially for minorities. The severances were clear signs that life had another path defined for me.
I shifted my focus to seeing both layoffs as grandiose blessings. Why? Because the first one allowed me to polish my project/budget/time management skills as I sailed through the many renovations and logistics of the house that my husband and I had just moved into back then. The second gave me the push to launch a business that encompassed everything I learned in the corporate world and truly make it my own. There was no better time to shift my vantage point and career. I started The Rose Maven with the last of my savings and no initial idea of where it would go. The Rose Maven is not only my company but my daily inspiration. When I look around my workspace, I not only see roses and supplies, I see reminders of my success.
When I started creating these bouquets, I knew I wanted them to serve as reminders of positive things like success, happiness, joy, and love- I wanted them to resemble the memories of happy occasions and bring back the emotions that were felt at that moment. That’s what the bouquet I received on my graduation day did for me- it brought back the great feelings of that day and it reminded me of my loved ones- who truly make me happy.
Each Rose Maven bouquet is meant to capture extraordinary moments. They serve as daily affirmations of accomplishments, confidence, and all the joyous moments that often get lost in the shuffle of everyday life. Whenever you look at your bouquet, I want the blooms to make you happy and give you the confidence to take on whatever life brings your way. There are some things you deserve to have forever, and these bouquets will last long enough to make sure you remember to pause and “cherish” the roses that represent the special moments in your life.
